Labradoodles Save Elderly Woman from Bitter Cold

Dogs can be heroes, too.

Two Labradoodle dogs in Michigan proved that earlier this month, when they saved the life of an elderly woman who had fallen in the snow.

The dogs, Adam and Eva, woke their owners, Lonnie and Susan Chester, at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 14 and proceeded to tug on their sleeves, demanding to be let outside.

The Chesters MLive that they wary of letting the dogs out, afraid that some unknown danger was lurking in the yard.

In an interview with The Associated Press Lonnie Chester said:

"(Adam) never tugged on my clothes before, so I was cautious about letting them out because I didn't know if there was anything out there."

But they finally gave in to the dogs' insistent pleas, and opened the door. Both dogs charged through the door, and to the Chesters' surprise, straight to an elderly woman who was lying in the snow wearing only a nightgown.

Lonnie Chester said:

"She looked up at me and said, 'I'm so cold.' I have no idea how long she had been out there. She must have been terrified."

The woman was in her late 80s and it was about 9 degrees out, so Lonnie brought her inside, covered her with blankets and called the police. She was soon reunited with her family, who had been searching for her but couldn't see her in the darkness.

"It could have been a tragic outcome had Adam and Eva not woken us," Susan Chester said. "I don't know how they knew she was out there."
