Watch these geese give a deer extra motivation to get out of the water.
A deer in Chicago is a rare sight indeed. One swimming in Montrose Harbor is probably even less common. But that's just what happened this past Tuesday in the windy city.
And the poor doe found itself unable to find a way out. She was trapped by the pier's rocky sides and high walls. That's when a bunch of geese entered the scene and gave her the extra motivation to get herself out of the water.
The whole incident was caught on camera.
"They (the geese) kept squawking at it and scaring it or encouraging it - I'm not sure one way or the other," CJ Danner told WGNTV. He was the one who shot the video of the deer and her unlikely motivating rescuers.
It's likely the geese simply saw the deer as an intruder in their domain and wanted it to leave the water. The news station reports the doe was in the water for 45 minutes until the geese came along and helped it back to shore.
Hopefully this doe will remember and think twice the next time she goes swimming. These types of incidents usually result in humans getting involved. Thankfully she escaped on her own and many of the witnesses to the event have a memory they'll never forget of the deer in the harbor.
