Watch a 1979 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Get Encased in Resin

A visual process of the painstaking work behind auto-inspired art, this 1979 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is encased in 4.4 tons of synthetic resin.

Sometimes, up close, art is pain. When it comes to turning classic cars into classic works of art, this couldn't be any truer. In the video below, watch the meticulous labors by a very dedicated team to create art out of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

A Work of Art

First introduced at the January 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the "Amber Cube" was created to pay tribute to the new 2019 G-Class G550 AND G63 AMG.

Encased in a Hamburg, Germany facility, the video walks through the process of hoisting and dropping into a cube-shaped container before 4.4 tons of resin is poured meticulously to prevent bubbles and other imperfections from forming.

In the end, it resulted in a 52-ton, 18'-by-10' sculpture, taking more than 8,800 hours or more than nine days of hands-on, slow-roasting work.
