Vigilance Rifles: What's Unique About This Emerging Gun Brand?

These purpose-built firearm designs are anything but conventional.

Vigilance Rifles Inc. has been designing and producing rifle systems for civilians, law enforcement, and militaries around the world since 1990, priding themselves on quality design, top-notch machining, and precise workmanship.

"Our weapons are unique and modern. We are the only rifle company to put accuracy guarantees on all of our systems," their website proclaims.

Based in Chino Valley, Arizona, Vigilance currently has two flagship products.

First up is the semi-auto Vigilance Rifles M20 carbine/submachine gun (SMG). This is an unconventional firearm that looks sort of familiar but isn't. The vaguely AR-looking receiver has a top lid, sort of like an M60 or M249 machine gun, that allows you to access the internals and to remove or swap out the barrel.

It has a boxy design, which is part of the signature Vigilance look, and is designed to take 9mm Promag magazines in 10-, 18-, 25-, 32-, and 50-round capacities.

The M20 is available with a carbine length barrel and stock and in a pistol configuration with a short barrel and no stock. Additional features include a fire pin lock as an extra safety feature which prevents the gun from firing if the lid is open, integrated fixed iron sights, a fixed ejector that doubles as a magazine stop, and a controlled feed extractor. The M20 comes with one 10-round magazine. The barrel is threaded to accept a suppressor or a muzzle brake and a Picatinny rail on top of the lid allows for the mounting of an optic.

Vigilance also produces four variants of their M18 bolt action .50 BMG precision rifle.

The Phase 4 version of the M18 chassis bolt gun includes a heavy duty shroud with an Accu-Tac HD-50 bipod, a matched 20-MOA Picatinny rail for optics, 10-round detachable box magazine, a heavy duty XLR Tactical folding stock with an adjustable cheekpiece and a folding monopod, an intense muzzle brake, and a Timney 2-stage trigger. The MSRP is $7,499.

A few other firearms, like the M14 BMG semi-automatic rifle, the M12 .308 Winchester, and theVR1 408 Cheytac are offered alongside a slew of accessories.

All in all, Vigilance Rifles seems to be supplying unique alternatives to the crowd of gun enthusiasts that like to view things from outside the box. While they'd catch looks at the shooting range, it appears as though most Vigilance Rifles pass the performance test.
