Muskie Boatside Strike is so Aggressive it Breaks the Rod

What a muskie hits boat side, you need to let it have some line!

Muskie fishing is a tough sport. You cast for hours on end with little to nothing to show for it. Then all of a sudden, there's a quick flash and it's all over. Whether you catch the fish or not, it's the follow and near misses that keep muskie fishermen coming back for more.

In the case of the video you are about to see, this muskie fisherman tangles with a muskie so powerful, it breaks the rod. Well, the fisherman did help it along a little. If you hook a muskie boat side, go to free spool and keep your thumb tight on the spool. This way, something like the below doesn't happen to you.

Okay, let's cut the guy some slack. From the description of the video, this was the guy's first muskie ever caught on a figure eight at boat side. Unless you have experienced this sort of rush yourself, then you don't understand how powerful and unpredictable these fish are.

Lots of things can go wrong when a muskie has you on short line. As you just saw, often times bad things happen.
