Exclusive: Fishbrain Announces the Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20 Wearable App

In an exclusive partnership with Casio, Fishbrain has announced that a wearable version of their app is now available on the Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20.

Fishbrain, the world's most popular fishing app and veritable social network for the angling community with over 4 million users, has announced an exclusive partnership with Casio—one of the world's foremost watch makers—to provide an integrated system in their new Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20.

This system will bring the fishing community's own shared information on such items as fishing data, interactive maps, and up-to-date location information in the form of a smartwatch.

Fishbrain CEO Johan Attby said via e-mail that, "The Pro Trek Smart is the definitive smartwatch for the outdoors enthusiast, so when Casio approached us about adding Fishbrain's exhaustive fishing intelligence to their collection of smartwatch apps, we thought it was as a perfect fit."

Here's a quick look at what it is and what it does:

The Fishbrain App allows its users to upload not only their newest fishing pictures on the spot, but videos as well. One of the most popular features on the App is the Fish Species Recognition attribute. Fishing forecasts, bait recommendations, and interactive maps are included as well.

Fishbrain now not only has a high profile collaboration with Casio, but with C-MAP, a leading supplier of digital marine cartography and cloud-based mapping solutions, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

The bottom line is: where can you get it, and for how much? Amazon has it on its Prime selection for $500, and lists "Digital compass, altimeter, barometer, activity tracker, dual layer lcd structure, original watch face, casio moment setter, microphone, and timepiece mode" among its other attributes. It is water resistant to 50 meters which is good for recreational swimming, but not so much for diving or prolonged snorkeling.

At that price it may not be for every fisherman out there, but neither was that packable flyrod with all the bells and whistles until you had it in your fishing little paws! Having this kind of technology at our disposal has offered us as outdoorsmen a certain kind of pleasure and information that we've always dreamed about.

Now it comes in the form of a handsome watch with every feature imaginable. That is until the good folks at Fishbrain and Casio go back to the drawing board and think up some new great stuff that we'll all want!
