Cyclist Crashes into Deer, Flips Over Bike, But Escapes with Minor Injuries

It's tough to say you've seen a harder hit than the one that resulted when this cyclist crashed into a deer.

When cyclist Reed Soehnel came cruising down a mountainside, the deer that just happened to cross the road at the time had seemingly timed it perfectly.

It appeared that maneuvering out of the way was not an option. Soehnel crushed into the deer with his front tire, flipped over the bike, and slid down the roadway as his bike tumbled past.

Oh deer, indeed.

Word has it he only suffered from a broken foot, cuts and bruises, and a mangled bike. The YouTube video's description says it took place on Mt. Lemmon, AZ around mile marker 17.

Here's Part 2 of the video, showing the damage to the bike and helmet.

Though the main season drivers and cyclists find deer on the roadways is during fall mating, streets in wooded habitats can almost always have the threat of crossing deer.

It's worth keeping your eyes wide open, whether you're behind handlebars or a steering wheel, and always be aware of the likelihood of a collision with a deer.
