When imagining wildlife encounters, people typically assume they need to be in a remote location. However, sometimes these encounters occur much closer to home than anticipated. One example is when a driver was making his way down the road when he stumbled upon a massive snake constricting around a young deer. Rather than ignoring the scene, the driver pulled over and saved the deer from the python's grasp.
Driver Frees Deer From Python's Grasp

AZ Animals shared some details surrounding the snake in the video. When thinking of a massive snake, the first snake that often comes to mind is the Burmese python. Those giant snakes are one of the most well-known invasive species in Florida, where this animal encounter occurred. However, the massive python in question was not a Burmese python. Instead, the snake featured in the video is a Reticulated python.
The outlet shared that Reticulated pythons "are the world's longest snake species and can swallow very large prey thanks to flexible skull bones and stretchy ligaments." That ability is clearly on display in the footage. In the video, the deer is clutched firmly in the python's grip. The massive snake is wrapped around the animal's entire body when a brave driver pulls over and begins to hit the snake with a tree branch.
The distraction works as the snake slightly releases the animal in an attempt to strike the driver. However, it cannot fully reach him with its grip on the deer. The man chooses to boldly strike the serpent again. In his second attempt, the driver pokes the snake with the pointy end of the branch, causing it to release the deer from its grasp. As soon as it feels the python's grasp slip away, the deer jumps to its feet and rushes away.
The Internet Has Mixed Feelings
The internet is divided on how they feel about the driver intervening on the deer's behalf. Some of the viewers found the action heroic, while others thought it was a disruption to nature. Here are some of the comments left underneath of the video.
