5 Trends That Will Shape Fishing in 2017

If you haven't noticed it already, these five fishing trends are on the horizon.

Just like with fashion, hairstyles, and diet fads, trends come and go in the outdoors world as well. As a matter of fact, these five fishing trends are something we may not have noticed, but they are coming on in a big way.

See what you think. Perhaps you are already participating in a few of these trends and didn't even know it.

1. USA Focused

Donald Trump is the president of the United States of America. His entire campaign was USA focused and making America great again. Unfortunately for the fishing industry, 90% of it is made overseas and imported to America for resale.

However, the "America first" message has resonated and many people are only buying USA products. I for one, think this trend is awesome and we need more of it.

2. Lower Cost, Better Quality

Gone are the days of a few big boys in the industry selling all the rods, reels, lures, and gear. With the expansions of online retail stores and small fishing businesses with niche specialities popping up all over, you don't need to go bow down to the corporations to get good gear.

One quick online search of what you are looking for will show you exactly what I'm talking about. The best part of all this, more than likely the small fishing business will produce better gear and have a better quality of service as well.

3. Fishing Videos

Pictures are so 2016. Instagram has already figured this out and started allowing video sharing. Twitter allows for longer videos to be shared as well. Other social media platforms are specifically designed for videos.

Anybody can take a high quality photo of a fish, but to get a good video, now you are doing something special. This fishing trend is only going to grow.

4. High Fashion

HUK has changed the fishing game. Other fishing apparel retailers are trying to keep up and offering some pretty cool stuff in the meantime, however, HUK has it all on lockdown.

No longer will you see people just wearing anything to the lake or river. If you are going to go fishing, you could go on a date to the movies right off the water.

5. Alternative Species and Tactics

With social media lighting up most of our lives these days, people will continue to search for better ways to get more likes and shares. What better way to do it than to show off fish that are hard to catch and in impossible ways? For example, how about the sewer kid? Fly fishing for sturgeon?

Yep.

Be on the lookout for fishing tactics you didn't think we possible. The best part? A few of these fishing trends you are going to want in on.
