Trash Treasure: Look at the Volvo FE Electric, its Second All-Electric Garbage Truck

Volvo is all-in on the garbage delivery business, debuting a new all-electric truck, the Volvo FE Electric, with a 124-mile range.

In collaboration with Faun, a garbage vehicle manufacturing company, the brands are set to deploy a fleet by early 2019 in Hamburg, Germany. Its premise is based on efficiency and quiet operation, designed for urban transport during later hours. The Volvo FE Electric is capable of hauling up to 60,000 pounds, powered by two electric motors contributing to 496 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque.

Electrifying Our Trash

"With the introduction of the Volvo FE Electric, we have a comprehensive range of electrically powered trucks for city operations and are taking yet another strategic step forward in the development of our total offer in electrified transport solutions," said Claes Nilsson, president of Volvo Trucks, in a statement.

In April, Volvo also debuted its first all-electric, the FL Electric, capable of different battery pack configurations from 100 to 300 kWh for a longer 186-mile range at the expense of reduced load capacity, with a max of 35,000 lbs.
