The AAV7 Amphibious Assault Vehicle is One of the Coolest Pieces of Military Hardware Ever

The AAVP-7 Assault Amphibious vehicle is nothing short of awesome.

The United States has developed many incredible pieces of military hardware over the years. Vehicles like the M1 Abrams tank, the A-10 Warthog and the M2 Bradley are just a few of the impressive machines our brave service men and women depend on every day.

However, we think the AAVP-7 stands out in the crowd. This landing vehicle is equal parts tank, landing vehicle and armored personnel carrier. Currently used by the United States Marine Corps, it is a vehicle one must see in action to fully appreciate.

The video below shows a USMC training exercise that shows the AAV P7  RAM-RS in action, from launch on board a U.S. Navy ship to a nearby beach. To say that this amphibious assault vehicle is versatile would be an understatement. Very few vehicles on earth can do what these vehicle is capable of.

This amphibious combat vehicle has served in the armed forces since 1972. It has seen action in places like the Persian Gulf, Somali and the Iraq War. There has been some talk of the U.S. Marine Corps replacing it with a new amphibious combat vehicle, but the AAV7 remains impressive none the less.

As per usual for our armed forces, the assault amphibian comes in several different varieties and armor kits depending on function. For instance, the AAVC-7A1 is used as a command vehicle. The AAVR-7A1 is a recovery vehicle and the AAVP-7A1 is a personnel carrier that can deliver up to 21 marines from offshore ship to beach. The vehicles you are seeing in this video is the AAV P7  RAM-RS.

While the primary purpose of this vehicle is to move Marines around, it does not do that unarmed. The weapon station of the AAVP-7 is often armed with the MK 19 40mm automatic grenade launcher and the mighty M2 Browning heavy machine gun. That is more than enough firepower to make any attacker think twice about their life choices up until that moment.
