Subaru Says 2019 Crosstrek Will Be Available as Plug-In Hybrid

Here's some good news for AWD-loving outdoor fans who want to go green.

Subaru says it's 2019 Crosstrek will be available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

According to the company's news release, the new plug-in will be powered by Subaru's four-cylinder, direct-injection boxer engine coupled to an "all-new transmission" and the Toyota Hybrid System. And, of course, it will be all wheel drive.

The crossover will be capable of driving on a combination of gas and electric power and, for short trips, solely on electricity.

Other than that, the news release was rather sparse on details. Unique styling will differentiate it from the gas-only Crosstrek (pictured above) but we're not sure what that might entail.

If you're interested, you only need to wait until "near the end of this year" Subaru says.
