Royal Caribbean Faces Backlash After Failing To Announce Attraction Closures

Nothing ruins a vacation more than arriving and finding out that what you went for is closed. Alas, that happened to several Royal Caribbean passengers as they embarked on their cruise. Now, the disgruntled passengers are sharing their grievances in a Reddit thread. Royal Caribbean is facing some serious backlash after failing to announce attraction closures aboard its ship.

The Independent shared that many people adore Royal Caribbean. One of the reasons many people adore them is because of the amenities that they offer — especially their waterslides. The outlet shared that the newer ships typically offer "six slides for children and adults, and Splashway bay, featuring canons and drench buckets for younger kids."

However, despite the ship still advertising all attractions being open, recent customers argue that this is not the case. Inside the Reddit thread, multiple passengers complained that "many of the slides at these waterparks, including Category 6 on the Icon of the Seas ship, were closed" during a recent sailing.

It appears that most of the passengers are more angered by the lack of transparency than the closures themselves.

The Reddit Thread Reveals All

In the Reddit thread, multiple passengers shared their frustration at the recent closures on their Royal Caribbean ships. Now, Royal Caribbean is facing some serious backlash. One user shared that when they traveled aboard the Icon, "every slide but one was closed by Thursday." Additionally, they shared that "two slides never opened at all."

Not only did they not make any effort to fix the slides, but they continued to "advertise the slides on these ships, especially the icon." Thus leading people to book for these water features only to be let down once the cruise actually begins. Here are some other comments from the thread.

  • "Yet they still advertise all slides being open. Also obviously the slides never met performance or safety standards. So why launch the ship at all."
  • "I was on the march 22-29 cruise on star as said in the article. For the whole cruise, the green raft slide that goes over the ship was closed for the whole cruise (can't recall the name) and on the last day, the tiny yellow slide (pressure drop) was closed. "
  • "This is something that should be disclosed prior to sailing. It's false advertising."
