This Golden Retriever mix saves a baby deer from the middle of the lake in selfless rescue. Harley is known for his kind nature and generosity  The sweet dog is now being hailed as a hero pup for his brave actions.

Saving a Baby Deer From Drowning

One morning Harley's human, Ralph Dorn, was looking for him, wondering where he could have run off too. As he scanned his backyard, he saw something offshore. It turns out it was his Goldendoodle in the water with another animal.

In the Facebook post, Dorn says that he realized it was a fawn.

He writes, " Not sure how the fawn got out there, but Harley obviously didn't ask why. He just jumped into action." Harley expertly guides the fawn back up to the shore, nudging him up the grass, making sure the little deer is okay. Harley even licks the little one to dry it off.

Waiting for Momma Deer

Dorn writes that the little deer's mom did come back to retrieve the fawn. When he saw that she was on the shore, he took Harley inside their home so that she would get closer to her baby. Eventually, she walks up to the fawn,, and they walk away together.

Dorn posted an update saying the momma deer and the fawn came back the next day. Dorn wrote:

"Harley got restless running from window to window. I opened the front door and we could hear the fawn bleating. Harley ran into the tree line and found the fawn. The little one stopped bleating, tail wagging, they touched noses sniffed each other and Harley came calmly back to the house with me."

This isn't the first time a hero dog stepped in to help out a woodland creature. In New York, instead of a lake, a dog saves a deer from the water as he and his owner walk along the Long Island Sound on a Sunday morning.

Storm and his owner Mark Freeley were walking on the beach by Port Jefferson Harbor when the English Golden Retriever ran into the water to save the drowning baby deer. Freeley told CBS New York, "Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore."

The video shows the dog nudging and nuzzling the little deer as if he was trying to resuscitate her in the cutest manner possible.

The fawn was all alone, so Freeley called an animal rescue to come and get her. Rescuers Frank Floridia and Erica Kutzing from Strong Island Animal Rescue League came to take the deer to the rescue center. It had an eye injury and needed to heal. It stayed at the Save the Animals Rescue Foundation until it was ready to go back into the wild.

The good boy got some handmade treats for saving the young deer on his walk Sunday.

These pups are both such good samaritans!
