The perennial also-ran of pickup trucks, Ram, is currently experiencing production issues, threatening its financial forecast.
In a story first reported by Automotive News, production is currently running at 60-percent of cycle at Ram's Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan to the tune of only 1,000 units a day versus a goal of 1,400 units a day.
Electrical issues are plaguing roughly 2,500 units, with 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter V8 48-volt mild hybrids being a challenge to produce in parallel to the previous generation models. As a result, the company has funneled more than $300 million trying to address the issues.
Other problems have included a delayed factory upgrade and inadequate employee training.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler, offering damning criticism with a shot at Elon Musk and his well-publicized production issues in a recent press call.
"I'm not sleeping on the floor," said Marchionne. "You need to be Elon's age to do that. I'm too old for that crap."
As a result, production schedules have been shifted, with two 10 hour shifts working 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Labor Day.
