270,000 Ram 1500s Recalled Due to Fuel Tank Separation Risk

Ram is now on the hook for 270,000 trucks, recalled due to a fuel tank separation hazard.

The issue is due to fuel tank bracket susceptibility to corrosion, causing the fuel tank to break apart. However, there is no risk to its tank rusting due to its heavy-duty polyurethane construction.

Affected models include the 2009 to 2012 model year Ram 1500s, which were sold in the following states.

Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

As of this writing, no issues have been reported.

If you noticed a hanging fuel tank strap or hear scraping noises due to rusty brackets, Ram has advised contacting your dealership to have it serviced.

For more information on the recall, please visit the NHTSA recall website and enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) to get the latest updates. Alternatively, affected owners and leasees will be notified via regular mail, with dealerships offering to reinforce the bracket free of charge after notifying customers first.
