Police are investigating claims that a Baywatch star hit someone's dog with his truck. The incident happened on April 16 in Malibu.
David Charvet allegedly hit the dog with his vehicle while driving through the neighborhood. However, preliminary findings make it sound like it is not the actor's fault.
"It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off leash and ran into the roadway," the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Department told People. "[Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them."
Additionally, a rep for the Baywatch star released a statement about the incident.
Charvet "is an animal lover and responsible dog owner who would never intentionally harm an animal, and "his thoughts are with the family who lost their dog."
"At approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning, while driving through his neighborhood in low-light conditions, he encountered a neighbor walking three dogs off leash in the middle of the street," his rep also said. "He slowed his vehicle and moved to the side to pass safely. As he did so, one of the dogs moved under the vehicle. He immediately stopped, called 911, and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. He fully cooperated with the investigation and made himself available for any further help."

This comes after the dog's owner, Vera Errico, claimed the animals had been on leashes. According to the owner, she had been walking her three dogs when one was hit. An 11-year-old white English Labrador named Sunday died from the resulting injuries.
Initially, the pet owner reported it as a hit and run. However, the actor himself called police shortly after it happened. Now, police are continuing the investigation of the incident. We'll have more info as it becomes available, but for now it sounds like a terrible accident.
Previously, the Baywatch star said, "I have to say that what I've experienced with my kids and what I've experienced in the last 17 years has definitely made me a better man, has made me understand what it is to have real relationships and be able to treat people kindly and have more of a humble approach in life."
