Of all the things you could be arrested for, freeing beagles is one of the better ones - at least in my opinion. But maybe that is just me. As the owner of a beagle myself, I have a special soft spot for them and am always trying to look out for animals. Apparently, so is this famous star. A popular Baywatch actress was recently arrested after she was caught freeing beagles during an animal rights protest.

Actress Alexandra Paul is better known for her work on the big screen than for her animal activism. However, after recent events, that may change. Over the weekend, the Baywatch actress was arrested in Wisconsin. The NY Post shared that the arrest came after she was "allegedly taking part in a caught-on-camera animal rights sting to free beagles from a controversial breeding facility."
Also, the 60-year-old actress was not alone in her endeavor. According to the outlet, she was "among 20 animal rights protesters nabbed for trespassing." The event occurred at Ridglan Farms, a breeding facility in Blue Mounds. This breeder has been under scrutiny for quite some time. It is one of the largest dog breeders in the country and has been supplying dogs for laboratory testing, which many find unethical.
Furthermore, it appears that these claims of unethical behavior have proved to be more than just assumptions. Fox6 shared that "A Dane County judge found probable cause that Ridglan Farms committed animal cruelty." However, despite these findings, the organization continues to house thousands of beagles at their facility. Naturally, animal rights activists were furious about this and claimed they were ready to mobilize if these beagles continued to be subjected to inhumane conditions.
Animal Rights Activists Focus On Freeing The Beagles
Although Ridglan denies any wrongdoing, its record is against it. Fox6 shared that "state inspectors cited more than 300 violations, and both civil and criminal cases remain under investigation." Perhaps that is why animal rights activists, including actress Alexandra Paul, decided to take action. The Baywatch actress and her fellow activists broke into the facility wearing protective suits.
Footage shows them escaping the facility, each tightly clutching terrified pups in their arms. The animal rights group announced that they successfully took 31 dogs from the facility. However, authorities intercepted 8 of them. Dan County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett admitted, "Some of the beagles taken were recovered and returned to Ridglan Farms, but several beagles remained unaccounted for."
Some were more angered by the return of the beagles than by the Baywatch actress being arrested for stealing them. The sheriff empathized with those in favor of saving the beagles. ""The Dane County Sheriff's Office understands how deeply people feel for the beagles at Ridglan Farms, and we respect their right to express that passion through peaceful protests," he shared. Additionally, he added that it is the job of law enforcement to "keep everyone safe and to respond when unlawful activity takes place." He then encourages anyone with concerns about animal welfare to "engage through lawful and constructive avenues."
