Call me crazy, but I don't find this policy that bizarre. Perhaps it is because I have never flown Southwest Airlines. Therefore, maybe this policy was considered normal among other airlines, or maybe I just never gave it much thought. Regardless, I was surprised to see people up in arms over this.

A frustrated passenger took to Reddit to share their most recent travel experience with the airline. They shared that they took a flight from LAS-DEN, and that was when they learned of the bizarre new takeoff policy. The post read, "They announced multiple times that we could not put anything in the seat back pocket because of safety reasons while taking off or landing."

Additionally, the post clarified that the flight attendants walked through and checked each seatback pocket as well. While this may have been customary for other airlines, this frustrated passenger shared that it was new for Southwest Airlines. "I always have my Kindle, snacks, and phone out of my bag before taking off and put them in the pocket so they're accessible," they shared. Afterward, they asked the people of Reddit if this was a new policy or if it was just a bizarre issue for that flight.

The People Of Reddit Share Their Thoughts

The people of Reddit never hold back when faced with a dilemma, and they didn't hold back this time either. Many of the commentators shared this passenger's frustration over Southwest Airlines' new bizarre takeoff policy. Here were some of the comments left under the thread.

  • "Never heard that one before. Have travelled six times in the past 2 months.....this is just getting out of control. They are just making stuff up as they go, I guess."
  • "Southwest sure has a lot of "safety" problems that no other airline has."
  • "Okay, so are the FAs secretly banding together and trying to kill Southwest?! All the stuff on here is insane. No moving seats, even when there are empty rows. No overhead bin space. Now nothing in the seatback pocket on take-off and landing. No legacy airline has these problems (with exception of the bin space, but nothing like Southwest). Reading these posts feels like reading The Onion. None of these new rules make sense and aren't common."

What do you think? Is this new takeoff policy as bizarre as people claim it is?
