New York DEC Warns Residents About Deceptive Hunting and Fishing License Websites

The New York DEC is warning consumers about certain websites that offer fishing licenses, hunting licenses, and hunter education training that purportedly meets New York requirements.

The headline on a NYS DEC bulletin blares, "Sportsmen and Sportswomen Beware - Opportunistic Websites"

Hunters and anglers in the Empire State need to be aware of  at least two websites currently up and running that purport to sell hunting and fishing licenses, along with hunter education information and training that "meets New York requirements."

The two sites currently identified are:

The state DEC says that,

"Among other things, these sites offer information on how their products can simplify the purchase of a New York State fishing license or hunting license. Though some of the logistical licensing information is correct and may be useful, these sites also offer the consumer the ability to purchase time-saving downloads for recreational licensing services that are specifically NOT affiliated with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation."

In short, if you spend your money on one of those websites, be aware that you are only getting assistance for your money, and not a hunting or a fishing license, nor are you receiving credit towards the purchase of a license.

DEC Licensing information can be found solely on their Sporting Licenses website.
