Meet the Black Mambas, an All-Female Anti-Poacher Unit

This anti-poacher unit is flat out getting the job done.

In a pretty cool video circulating around the Internet, you get to meet a female anti-poacher unit operating out of Kruger National Park. Their daily responsibilities consist of checking fences and patrolling the perimeter of the park. As they state in the video, their objective is to protect the African Big Five, but especially the rhinos: of all the endangered species in the park, they are the most vulnerable. Just last year, over 4,000 rhinos were poached for their ivory. At that rate, rhinos will be extinct from our planet by 2025.

Good news is, the Black Mambas are making a difference! On the two million acres they patrol, animal poaching has dropped considerably.

In large part, poachers are only now becoming aware that people are out there watching for them. That idea alone can deter would-be poachers who are on the fence.

Efforts like those of this anti-poacher unit are critical to the survival of several African animals. Good job, ladies. Keep up the good work. Hopefully, some others will join the cause to stop this illegal poaching.
