Nothing sounds more relaxing than a day at the beach, am I right? Well, that is, unless while you are there, you get pummeled by a massive wave. Although that sounds like something that doesn't happen every day, it is something that happened to some poor folks in the Canary Islands. As they decided to stand too near the ledge of some rocks, the beachgoers got pummeled by a massive wave. Also, insane footage captures the entire moment.
Insane Footage Captures The Moment A Massive Wave Takes Out Beachgoers

While I love a good photo op I never understand the people who think that warning signs don't apply to them. Nine out of ten times, if there is a sign telling you not to do something, it is because there have been several incidents where someone has done it and the results were unpleasant. Nevertheless, there are always those who think the rules do not apply to them.
The NY Post shares that that is what started this whole ordeal. Apparently, a group of tourists was near the Faro de Sardina del Norte in Gran Canaria when the event happened. Additionally, the outlet shared that the group of tourists "ignored the warning signs." Not only that, but they also "went through the protective fencing around the cliffs." So if you ignore the signs and the protective fencing, my sympathy for you is dramatically lessened.
As they were standing near the edge, taking photos, a massive wave began to form behind the beachgoers. At first, the man and woman did not seem to understand the severity of the situation. The man just stood staring at the wave as it continued to rise higher and higher, while the woman sat on a rock filming. Unfortunately for them, the wave just got stronger and stronger. Then, as it got closer and higher, the massive wave pummeled the beachgoers who dared to get too close.
The Internet Reacts
It appears that I am not alone in my lack of sympathy. First and foremost, the NY Post calls out the repercussions of these actions. Not only does it have negative side effects for the individuals who were struck by the wave, but it also "puts an additional burden on emergency services." That burden occurs because they now need to enter into extremely dangerous conditions to save you from a place that you shouldn't have been in the first place. Also, many people online shared how stupid they thought these individuals' actions were. Here are some of the comments left under the video.
- "If they are carried away by the sea, is that called natural selection?"
- "Well, I think it's terrible; others will have to risk their lives to rescue them. They have no shame."
- "People are dying for a selife!!! Are we crazy or what?"
