Hyundai Recalls 40,000-Plus Vehicles Due to Detached Steering Column Risk

Hyundai has recalled more than 40,000 vehicles for faulty steering columns, which could break and detach while the vehicle is in motion.

Vehicles impacted include 12,574 2018 Santa Fe SUVs and 31,367 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports.

Specifically, the issue comprises of steering wheel hub assemblies that were manufactured with a lack of breakage strength, increasing the likelihood of a detached steering wheel while driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two incidents have be passed on to Hyundai, with no reported injuries or deaths.

To correct the issue, Hyundai dealers have offered a free inspection to check its production lot number and issue a replacement, if necessary.
