The public rejoiced after a homeless man found a missing 6-year-old boy wandering the streets. Despite being in a rough spot himself, this man acted selflessly and heroically, ensuring that this young boy was found. Their story is a gentle reminder to us all not to judge a book by its cover.
Homeless Man Finds Missing 6-Year-Old Boy
People Magazine shared some of the details surrounding the situation. Arnett Johnson has been homeless for the past six months. Since his release from prison, it appears that the odds have not turned in his favor. However, this homeless man decided he would take matters into his own hands one night, when he spotted a 6-year-old boy wandering the streets alone.
Miami streets are not the friendliest, particularly at night and particularly for a young child. As soon as Johnson spotted the boy, he called the police. When speaking to 10 News Local, Johnson had this to say. "I'm looking around for a parent, but I looked, and I don't see anybody," he confirmed. "So, I'm like, what is this kid doing out here outside at this time of night?" That is the question that everyone wanted answered.
Johnson reiterated everyone else's thoughts and fears as well. Sharing that he just did what he felt he had to do, and that the late-night Miami streets were no place for the missing 6-year-old boy. "It's dangerous every day out here, right here," he explained. "God sent me there. I had to do what God say to do," he explained.
Why Was This Missing 6-Year-Old Boy On The Streets
The homeless man was not the only one questioning the location of the missing 6-year-old boy. How in the world did this little tyke end up there? According to the child himself, "Mommy dropped me off and left me." When speaking with 7News, City of Miami Police Officer Vega shared further details.
"We're talking about a 6-year-old that has, obviously, a learning problem, disabilities, that he shouldn't have been out on the street to begin with," he explained. With assitance from a flyer and the boy's school, authorities were able to track down his mother. They learned that she and the boy had been living in a property with another family.
When questioned by the police, the mother explained her child was in his bed, so the next day she went to work "without checking on her son." PEOPLE shared the startling news that when "a witness's child asked Rivera [the mother] where her son was," she allegedly responded, "she did not know and thought maybe the victim was at the godmother's house."
Officers brought her into custody on Thursday and she has been charged with child neglect.
