This beautiful dog will help so many burn victims. Taka survived a house fire back in October and was badly burned.
WAGT NBC News in Georgia reports that Taka is now training to be a support animal at a burn center in Georgia. Now that he's recovered from his injuries, Taka's owner Crystal Lesley and trainer hope to have him certified as a canine good citizen. He'll need this training and his therapy dog status in order to work at the Burn Center.
Lesley has been by Taka's side from day one. She went from being his vet to owner. She says he's up for the challenge.
Taka was having trouble getting along with Lesley's other dogs. To ensure Taka could stay with her, training was suggested by a friend and they haven't looked back. They work on distractions and WRDW News reports that these techniques will help Taka earn his AKC Canine Good Citizen.
"He's got the right temperament for it," his trainer said. "Of course he has the scars to show for it and he can relate to a lot of the people there so I think it's going to benefit both him and the patients there."
Taka had extensive burn wounds and is flying through his training. The owner is determined to have him help people that will be able to relate to him. He can be a "light at the end of the tunnel for someone."
This is much different than the story we wrote about Tommie's Law which deals with animal cruelty and a pit bull intentionally burned and set on fire.
