Deer Dumpling Tacos: Combining Two Delectable Favorites

Like if a dumpling and a smash taco had a baby.

There's no shortage of fabulous recipes for deer meat—and with a freezer filled with venison, you're likely looking for some new favorites. While we all love a good venison taco, it's fun when it involves two meals that just scream comfort food: dumplings and tacos.

These scrumptious wild game Asian fusion tacos are a combination of juicy ground venison meat, crispy vegetables, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce—all wrapped into soft mini tortillas. For this, you can use corn or flour mini tortillas, depending on your preference. Roll the meat into sphere-like meatballs before pressing them onto the tortilla. Add in your veggies and top with a DIY dipping sauce that's complete with a little spice, thanks to the chili oil. Need a little more spice in your life? Add a smidge of sriracha sauce to the top!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground venison
  • ½ white onion, finely diced
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced (plus more to garnish)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 12 mini tortillas
  • 8 ounces shredded green cabbage
  • 2 ounces shredded carrots

Dipping sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili oil

Recipe directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground venison, diced onions, green onions, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and ginger.
  2. Form into 12 equal-sized meatballs and set aside.
  3. Mix the dipping sauce in a small bowl, then set aside. This can be served warm or at room temperature.
  4. Heat a large pan (or griddle) over medium heat. Add meatballs in batches, spaced with enough room for the tortillas.
  5. Slowly press down each tortilla on top of each meatball. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, then flip. Cook until the tortilla is crisp, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve dumpling tacos topped with shredded cabbage and tortillas, with the dipping sauce on the side.
