Carrie Underwood Mourns the Loss of Her Dog Ace: "He Was a True Friend"

Just hours after performing at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, country superstar Carrie Underwood said goodbye to her beloved Chihuahua, Ace. The 39-year-old singer shared the sad news of Ace's death on Instagram, posting photos of heartwarming memories with him over the past 12 years.

"Last night my sweet Ace left this world...he will forever live on in our hearts and be forever missed," Carrie wrote. "He was there for me when I was on my own trying to figure out life when it was at its craziest!"

Through her years in the spotlight, Ace played a special role in the Oklahoma native's life. He even made a guest appearance as ring bearer in her 2010 wedding to Mike Fisher.

"He was with me through 3 houses, 6 tours and 2 kids...always ready to snuggle and play...through all the highs and lows," Carrie continued. "He was a true friend and a good boy till the very end."

Fellow country star Miranda Lambert shared her condolences in the comments section of Carrie's touching post.

"So sorry. I know how bad that hurts," Miranda wrote. "Sendin love your way."

Other musicians, including Trevor McNevan and The Swon Brothers, also offered Carrie words of comfort. Singer Lindsay Ell said it best: "[Dogs] are truly such lights in our lives."

Carrie has two other four-legged family members, Zero and Penny, who she recently celebrated alongside Ace on her Instagram for National Puppy Day.

"It's #NationalPuppyDay ! My babies might be all grown up now (even got one in diapers), but they'll always be puppies in my heart," she wrote. "Be extra sweet to those furry family members today!"

Pet loss is tough—there's no way around it. If you have a pup, squeeze them extra tight this week in honor of Ace.

The singer ended her tribute with some sweet parting words: "I love you, sweet Ace...see you on the other side..."

Hang in there, Carrie.
