Your dream fishing trip may include inshore fishing, open ocean saltwater fishing, or the excitement of casting off the beach, but there's no denying that the best fishing from Long Island Sound to the Florida Keys is a matter of argument.

Montauk, New York

This incredible setting hasn't changed much for fishermen in a very long time. More people visiting has led to higher accommodation prices over the years, but for those seeking an extraordinary fishing excursion, the eastern tip of Long Island is an angling Mecca.

Everything from mako sharks to several kinds of tuna are available to the saltwater fishing crowd in Montauk, but if you like to stay closer to shore, there are areas you can cast right from the beach into dizzying schools of striped bass.

Penobscot Bay and Surrounding Area, Maine

The coast of Maine is one of the most beautiful places in North America, but it's the fishing that really gets our attention. Mackerel, striped bass, bluefish, and bluefin tuna in incredible sizes are often caught in these pristine waters off of the Pine Tree States's coastline.

There are plenty of cod, haddock, and halibut which are all well known as being some of the best eating fish there are. Even the shark fishing can be spectacular, and the ocean predators typically follow the same baitfish as the other targeted species.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Besides the famous stripers, Cape Cod offers wahoo, swordfish, cod, bluefish, and giant bluefin tuna fishing for those that have the urge to do some serious ocean fishing.

Fishing Cape Cod is almost limitless as you can easily put yourself the sounds, bays, flats, and even use it as your base to head out to the heart of the Atlantic for a deep sea ocean fishing adventure.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

From fishing off of a boardwalk, to casting the beach, to offshore trolling, Virginia Beach is a place that all anglers should fish at some point in their life. Marlin, tuna, cobia, bluefish, amberjack, and mahi mahi all swim in and around the Virginia Beach area, and anglers have a huge supply of veteran charter services to guide them on an excursion.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

The Outer Banks is an excellent vacation destination, but areas such as Cape Hatteras offer some of the best ocean fishing to be had in the entire nation.

North Carolina's Outer Banks are like an interstate highway for fish moving up and down the Atlantic Coast. Species such as wahoo, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, and red drum can all be caught here and it hasn't changed. It might be tricky to pull yourself away from the beauty of the beach, but finding a fishing excursion for you and your family is as easy as it gets.

Florida Keys, Florida

The Florida Keys are a bucket list visit for almost everyone and anyone in the country with the desire to get away from it all... or catch a tarpon the size of a small truck.

There are so many fishing hot spots in and around this scenic area that it almost defies explanation. Key West, Islamorada, and Key Largo are all destinations in the Florida Keys with converging currents that draw all species of game fish, amazing tropical weather that can be fished year round, and crystal clear waters like every angler dreams about.

Making It All Happen

As a fishing destination, the East Coast offers up some of the most unique fishing opportunities there are. From top to bottom, the angling list seems endless with species such as flounder, redfish, snapper, tarpon, snook, bonefish, grouper, kingfish, pompano, Spanish mackerel, and even sea trout to target.

The best part is that it can all come in the form of a vacation with a planned fishing trip to top it all off. Start your research and find well-reviewed and respected charter guide services, and start the early stages of the best planned fishing trip.

Head to the East Coast to catch fish, have the time of your life, and continue fishing our country's historic region, just like the generations before.
