Auburn Equestrian Team Defeats Texas A&M to Win the Coveted SEC Championship

Did you typically lose a few sports bets and have to "pony up" after the weekend? Some people left money on the table after this exciting news about the Auburn Tigers equestrian team! The Auburn equestrian team celebrated winning the SEC Championship against Texas A&M and checked off one of their goals for the year!

As reported in an article on head coach, Greg Williams said,

"This is such an exciting time for the Auburn Tigers, we've set our sights on this the last couple years and it feels really good to bring this title back home to Auburn. The competition in the SEC is just the best and if you can win here, you can anywhere in the country. All four teams are capable of winning the national championship so this is really special."

The Tigers defeated Texas A&M, 11-6 to win their second-ever SEC championship. The league meet was held on the campus of Texas A&M at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.

Auburn kicked off the two-day meet Friday with a 13-7 win over South Carolina to advance to the championship round.

The Auburn Plainsman tells us,

"The Tigers started off hot on Saturday with a 4-1 victory in fence jumping. Senior Ashton Alexander orchestrated a 213-120 win before freshman Emma Kurtz knocked out Grace Boston, 251-248."

The judges even awarded Auburn two bonus points in Reigning after a stunning performance by sophomores Terri-June Granger and Deanna Green.

What's next for the Auburn equestrian team?

They'll be defending their national title at the 2019 NCEA Championship from April 17-20, in Waco, Texas at the Extracto Events Center.
