An American tourist has died after a violent encounter with four locals in Bangkok, Thailand. He allegedly showed up armed to beg his Thai ex-girlfriend to take him back.
But things exploded into violence, resulting in the tourist being beaten and stabbed to death. 54-year-old Stein Heath Cole died after suffering five stab wounds and two broken legs. Four local men including his ex's new boyfriend and brother allegedly beat the man to death. Cole had went to beg a 24-year-old Nan Phawt Ar Cho back, according to the Mirror.
However, things took a turn when the American tourist allegedly brandished a kitchen knife while speaking with his ex. That prompted the four men to grab weapons of their own and attack Cole. They allegedly beat him with a pipe and stabbed him with a knife before leaving him in the street.
American Tourist Beaten to Death
"This incident was caused by a personal relationship dispute," Bang Mod Police chief Colonel Sonchai Poonpo said. "The deceased could not accept their break-up and had been following his ex-girlfriend continuously. On the day of the incident, he is said to have produced a knife, provoking the suspects to intervene and attack him. The suspects claimed that they had no intention to kill, but the situation became chaotic, and they lost control."
Apparently, one of the four men was also wounded and had to go to the hospital. Authorities arrested the four men and charged them with "assaulting another person, causing death."
"Relatives of the woman did not approve of her relationship with the American man and had been trying to separate them," Poonpo said. "He was described as aggressive, prone to outbursts, and a heavy drinker. Both the woman's family and the American were staying in the same apartment building. There had been previous confrontations between him and her relatives."
