Louisiana Woman Claims To Be A Mermaid, Allegedly Attacks Cop

A Louisiana woman is in big trouble after claiming to be a mermaid and then allegedly attacking a sheriff's deputy. She went skinny-dipping and trespassed.

A police officer responded to the calls about the woman trespassing. The incident happened last November, but just now is making the headlines. A home in Marion, Louisiana, called the police. They reported the woman standing in their driveway and yelling. The woman refused to leave. By the time a deputy responded, the woman had shed her clothes and was swimming in a pond on the property.

Police tried to arrest 41-year-old Erin Elizabeth Sutton. However, according to a sheriff's office Facebook post, she refused to leave the pond. She kept "trying to be a mermaid." Upon exiting the pond, she then allegedly charged at a deputy. She ignored repeated commands to stop and comply with the officer. She then resisted being detained.

The officer used a taser, but it apparently had no effect on the woman. Silly, officer should have known that tasers don't work on a mermaid. However, tackles apparently do. Police took the would-be mermaid to the ground. She allegedly continued to resist arrest and continued to kick and punch at the deputy.

The deputy managed to restrain her. Authorities transported her to the hospital for treatment. She allegedly threatened to kill police and paramedics alike as well. After being treated at the hospital, the mermaid found herself in major hot water. Police pursued arrest warrants against the woman for her alleged crimes.

On January 6, police arrested Sutton for the incident. She faces multiple charges, including three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, two counts of public intimidation, two counts of battery of a police officer, disturbing the peace/drunkenness and criminal trespassing.

Her bond was set at $62,000.
