Cruise Ship Passenger Speaks Out After 73-Year-Old Falls Overboard On Disney Cruise Line

A cruise passenger is speaking out after a 73-year-old has fell overboard on a Disney Cruise Line. The incident happened last weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday, November 22 in the early hours. The Disney Wonder, part of the Disney Cruise Line, had been sailing from Melbourne, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand. That's when the senior passenger fell overboard, according to 7 News Australia.

Authorities do not believe that the man survived his plunged from the ship. Instead, according to a police spokesperson, the fall from the Disney Cruise ship was likely fatal. "It is understood the man died after he jumped from a cruise liner into the waters in the Tasman Sea," a police spokeswoman told the outlet.
Police have chosen not to share the identity of the man at this time. But they are aware of his identity. The man's death comes after a multi-hour search for him. The Disney Wonder ship turned around after learning the man plunged into the sea. Crew members searched for around five hours for any sign of the passenger. However, ultimately, they failed to locate him.

Man Plunges From Disney Cruise

A passenger on the Disney ship described the immediate aftermath. He said the tragedy affected the mood on the ship in the hours and day afterward.

"The captain came on and updated the boat and basically stated that there was someone, a passenger had fallen overboard ... [but] that they were unable to find them," passenger Mitch Talbot told the outlet.

He added, "It was quite somber, and it was a bit eerie the rest of the day. A lot of the staff kind of took some time."

According to authorities, the man was a Melbourne native. At this time, authorities do not believe that the man's death was a result of foul play. Instead, it appears to be the result of a tragic accident.

Following the death, the Disney ship continued with its journey. Due to the setback, it will reach its destination a day later than previously scheduled.
