The Wall Township Police Department shared some details of the event on their Facebook page. Amid those details, the department shared the names of the officers involved in the rescue mission. The post read, "Ptl. Jerry Baker, Ptl. Dan Grothues, Ptl. Josh Wheeler and Lt. Eric Jennings responded to a call for help." This call for help came after a resident's dog, named Sandy, slipped out of her collar during their walk.
Unfortunatley, Sandy did not just go for a little joy stroll. Instead, the dog slipped and became trapped in a storm drain. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a frantic owner and saw Sandy, clearly shaken, stuck below ground. After assessing the situation, the officers decided they needed to act quickly. Clearly, officers could not afford to wait for the storm drain grate to be lifted. Sandy's life was on the line.
Instead, the officers quickly improvised. Their post shared, "using a lockout tool, they carefully reached down and managed to hook Sandy's collar." After hooking her, the officers managed to pull her to safety. Finally, they ended the post with the most triumphant news. "Thanks to their quick thinking and compassion, Sandy was safely reunited with her very grateful owner without injury."
Video Footage Of The Moment
Despite the happy ending, the video footage of the moment is definitely nerve-wracking. For instance, Sandy's fluffly white body shook as she was trapped within the drain. One officer worked tirelessly to attack the lockout tool on Sandy's harness. You can hear the poor dog's terrified yelps as officers hook and lift her out of the storm drain.
Luckily, just as the story did, the video ends happily. Finally, officers successfully pulled Sandy out of the storm drain without injury. Then, the officers placed her into her owner's arms, who was shaken but grateful for the turn of events.
