Girl Fearlessly Holds a Diamondback Water Snake

Is a diamondback water snake safe to handle?

By all counts, it appears to be the fairly common, non-venomous Nerodia rhombifer, more commonly known as the diamondback water snake.

You'll have to decide if you'd want to handle an aggressive snake like this.

Many of us have been handling snakes and other critters since we were kids, but sometimes erring on the side of caution is best.

This certainly seems to be a safe-to-handle common water snake, but most folks should stay away from reptiles such as these, as they could be mistaken for a lethal one.
