Mother Elk Scares Off Bear Attacking Its Calf

This bear had an elk calf all to himself for lunch until a cow showed up. Never mess with a mama elk.

According to the YouTuber, this video was captured near Flagstaff, Arizona, and appears to show an immature blond-phase black bear attempting to secure an elk calf for its lunch.

Enter one mother elk who isn't having any of it.

Here's a great look at nature and survival at its finest:

According to AZGFD, the black bear is the only remaining species of bear still living in the Grand Canyon State.

While the young bear would climb the tree to avoid the elk cow, it certainly wasn't giving up. Since the folks who took the footage were filming from a vehicle, they were fortunate enough to get a front-row seat.

Too bad there isn't more of the video to see if the bear or the elk won.
