Indiana Turkey Trashes Windshield of Out-of-Towners' Rental Car

A 30-pound turkey trashed this SUV's window!

It's a safe bet the Taraboczhia family won't soon forget their first visit to the University of Notre Dame in northern Indiana.

That's because their encounter with a big tom turkey not only trashed their rental vehicle, it also became a viral sensation! The La Porte County Sheriff's Office posted the photos of the 30 pound tom that impaled and stuck in their windshield as the New Jersey family drove west on U.S. 20.

Fortunately, the only one hurt in the nasty-looking collision was the turkey. The tom was killed immediately on impact. The human passengers had a few minor cuts from the broken windshield's glass.

The family had been visiting the university since their daughter had been accepted to the school. No word on if she's still going after this. The photos quickly became a viral sensation when the sheriff's department posted them online.

It's easy to think of turkeys as big and dumb, but harmless birds. But any 30 pound animal is obviously capable of quite a bit of damage in the right circumstances. It's something the La Porte County sheriff echoed in their post as a warning to civilians.

"Mating season for wild turkeys means that they are often on the move and can be as hazardous as deer," their post reads. Hope the Taraboczhia family bought the insurance on this rental. They're definitely going to need it!
