You'll Want to Hear Fred Eichler's Statement on Wolves in Colorado

Wildlife conservation is at a serious crossroads right now.

When someone decides to take a firm stance on a controversial topic, the first thing we as listeners do is check for credentials. Does this person have the life experiences to back up his or her claims? Is this person's opinion valued by his or her peers?

Fred Eichler has earned an exemption from those questions, as he's easily one of the most respected names in all of big-game hunting and conservation.

He's the owner of Full Draw Outfitters. He's a successful writer and a wildlife photographer, as his content has appeared in a number of magazines, including Bowhunter Bowhunting World, North American Hunter and Traditional Bowhunter. He's the host of Easton Bowhunting TV and Predator Nation, and he's also released a slew of DVDs.

He's also a current member of the Outdoor Writer's Association, the Colorado Bowhunters Association, the Professional Bowhunters Society, the Pope and Young Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the NRA.

So, it's probably safe to say we can trust this guy's opinion.

Let's see what he has to say about the reintroduction of wolves in Colorado:

"We already have wolves here, we do not need them reintroduced," Eichler says.

Because we've sustained healthy elk and whitetail deer populations through hunting, there's really no benefit in reintroducing wolves unless the objective is to eliminate the need for hunters.

Plus, as Eichler said, there already are wolves in Colorado that came from the Yellowstone initiative, so why is there a need for more wolves all of the sudden?

In addition to the negative impact wolves can have on wildlife, they can also be devastating to farmers and ranchers, as they can take out their livestock in the blink of an eye.
