This alligator gar may be up to 70 years old!
YouTube fishing personality The Fish Whisperer has been on a real alligator gar fishing kick lately and has had some outstanding success. In his last video, he and a buddy both reeled in a couple of 200-pounders for one of the biggest freshwater doubles you'll ever see.
However, we never thought we'd see him top his personal best, which was a 7-footer that pulled his Jon boat around like a bath toy. But we were very wrong!
What an absolutely tremendous fish! Combine its eye-popping, 44-inch girth with a stunning 8 feet of length and you have a fish that weighs nearly 250 pounds! Considering the outstanding fight this fish gave up, we're not surprised he's been after the alligator gar so much lately. He also said in the comments section that he hopes to combat some of the misunderstandings about gar.
"This fish could be anywhere from 60 to 90 years old!" he wrote. "My goal is to help people understand that these fish are very important to the ecosystem and deserve to be treated better by humans. Hopefully y'all get a chance to catch one like this one day!"
