Watch: Hickok 45 Gives a Demonstration and History of the Gewehr 88 Commission Rifle

Hickok45 tests out the Gewehr 88 commission rifle.

It has been a while since we've enjoyed one of Hickok45's discussions and test shooting videos for firearms. In this one he's showing us the German-made Gewehr 88 commission bolt action rifle, a gun that saw heavy action back in World War I.

This 8mm rifle packs a punch and has aged very well!

Not bad at all for a 127-year-old rifle, right? I always enjoy these demonstrations/history lessons by Hickok. I did a little more research and found these rifles were used in a large number of conflicts. The last one was as recent as the Korean War.

He didn't mention it, but it looks like the Gewehr 88 packs a punch. And I notice there's very little cushioning on the stocks of this old 8mm too. My shoulder got sore just thinking about shooting this rifle in excess.

I got curious after watching this video and browsed some gun sites for the Gewehr 88 after watching this video. As Hickok45 notes, they made a lot of these and they are surprisingly affordable. If one is looking to get into antique firearm collecting, this might be a good gun to start with!
