The Luka EV: An Electric Car with a Vintage Touch

Feast your eyes on the Luka EV, a fully electric car with a retro twist.

Electrification is nothing new. With the advanced intelligence and engineering in the industry, nearly all automakers are on the path to manufacturing a line of electric cars.

There's one in particular, however, that is taking a different approach to the movement. MW Motors is a Czech Republican car brand, and its Luka EV is a true phenomenon.

Although this car company isn't well-known to us in the States, we have a feeling it will be soon.

MW Motors first released news of this electric vehicle back in 2015 when they were just in talks of producing it. Now, three years later, it's set to be a full-blown EV across the pond.

This two-door, two-seater roadster weighs less than 1,800 pounds, offers a long range of 186 miles and mirrors decades-old style—but in a good way.

One of the most unique aspect of the Luka EV is not retro, however. It's the engineering.

Instead of placing the motor beneath the hood, there are four 12.5 kW motors located in each wheel hub. MWM comments that they're the first to implement this motor design in a car.

The Luka EV reaches a top 66 horsepower and a top speed of 90 miles per hour. Although that doesn't seem like a ton of power, keep in mind that the car itself weighs just shy of 1,800 pounds and doesn't contain a heavy battery.

The 21.9-kWh NiCoMn battery pack helps provide the lengthy 186-mile driving range in this electric car.

Thanks to its lightweight construction, torque vectoring, traction control, and anti-lock regenerative brake system, handling in this electric car is a streamlined dream. Its 100% aluminum alloy chassis doesn't hurt either.

The Luka EV is available in one of five colors: black, red, silver, green, and two tone. Others are reportedly available upon request.

A fully leather interior comes standard, along with air conditioning, navigation, infotainment, and more.

The Luka EV is not a concept car—MW Motors fully intends on it becoming a production vehicle. Each model manufactured is an original that is put together by technicians in their facility.

Details are still up in the air whether North America will see the Luka EV, but it will be highway legal in the EU soon enough.
