The Clay Newcomb Story: Mules, Bears, Squirrels, And Arkansas

Ever heard of Clay Newcomb? Here's what you need to know about the mule riding and bear hunting Renaissance Man from Arkansas.

If you've never heard of him, Clay Newcomb is a man from northwest Arkansas who has made quite the name for himself in recent years for his somewhat unique style of hunting and storytelling.

Newcomb, the owner and editor of Bear Hunting Magazine, is an avid bear, deer, squirrel, turkey and raccoon hunter. However, he's far from a one-dimensional character and there's quite a bit more to his story than can be summed up in just a few sentences like that.

First Lite recently recently produced a very interesting film delving a little deeper into where Clay comes from, how he got started, and where he's going these days.

Watch the video to learn more about why he's such an interesting guy.

As you can see, there's a whole lot more to Clay Newcomb than first meets the eye. Contrary to what you might believe from just looking at social media, hunting bears and riding mules doesn't actually occupy very much of Clay's time.

To an outsider, those are certainly some of the more exciting things he does. However, he clearly recognizes the importance of balancing his family responsibilities, passions and business ventures.

In that same vein, Brent Reaves noted at the beginning of the film that Clay is an incredibly goal-oriented person. For this reason, Clay is an incredible example of how much a person can accomplish when they have clearly defined goals and priorities.

That's a big part of how he's able to be a good husband and father while at the same time running a business and spending so much time hunting.

A one-off success could potentially be attributed to luck, but a hunter consistently doing things like taking a 550-pound bear, a giant whitetail buck, or setting his kids up for success is clearly operating at another level from the average hunter.

I don't know about you, but I've never heard another story where somebody had a dream about a giant 24-point buck, drew a picture of it, and then ended up shooting a buck that fall that looked exactly like what he visualized.

Maybe there's something to all those personal development books telling you to set goals and then visualize accomplishing them...

He's accomplished a tremendous amount in recent years and I have a feeling that we'll be hearing a whole lot more from Clay Newcomb in the future!
