Snorkeler Gets Surprise Of A Lifetime When A Massive Creature Photo Bombs Her

When snorkeling in the ocean, you can expect to see all types of wonders. In my experience, I got to see stunning reefs, colorful fish, sea turtles, and even a shark! However, this snorkeler got the surprise of a lifetime when a massive creature decided to photo bomb her selfie.

People Magazine shared some of the details surrounding this incredibly close encounter. Maurene Calago was enjoying her time snorkeling in the Philippines. A video, shared online, showed the snorkeler getting the surprise of a lifetime. As she went under the water for an epic photo op. However, when she was under the water, she was not the only one there.

A massive creature — a whale shark — suddenly appeared behind her. It appears that Calago was unaware of the whale's presence as she continued to face the camera and hold up peace signs. However, as the massive creature swam closer, it began to open its jaws. As it passed the snorkeler, she got a surprise when it physically bumped into her, gently nudging her out of its way.

Although I am certain the creature was not trying to be malicious, even a slight bump from such a massive creature could be deadly. Luckily, Calago appeared fine. She even went back under the water to flash two thumbs up, showing she was okay after the unexpected ordeal.

Whale sharks are not known to be aggressive, and people are not on their menu. Instead, these 11-ton animals mainly feast on plankton and small fish. Nevertheless, I am sure encountering one in the wild, and so up close and personal, can be a bit nerve-racking. Now, Calago has an epic story to tell to all of her friends and family.
