VIDEO DEBUT: See the New Mustang Shelby GT500 with 700+ HP

The horsepower wars are heating up as Ford Performance readies the most powerful street-legal Ford Mustang ever produced.

Ford Mustang enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to in the next couple years following the introduction of the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt and a quick teaser confirming the next-generation Shelby GT500. Without divulging too many secrets about the new Shelby, Ford announced that the new Shelby-tuned Mustang will debut next year with more than 700 horsepower - twice as powerful as the original 1967 Shelby GT500 (pictured above)!

You're definitely going to want to turn up the volume to hear these cars rev!

From the video, we can see that the 2020 Shelby GT500 will have a far more aggressive body kit than the current Shelby GT350. This includes a massive lower air intake, fixed rear spoiler and what appears to be a wider body with aero vents coming down from the headlights.

Ford confirmed that the Shelby GT500 will be released this fall in 2019. Following the huge Ford Performance reveal in 2015 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, though, it's a safe bet Ford will build buzz around the most powerful street-legal Ford ever.
