jet ski hits boat

And September's Moron of the Month Award Goes To...

Because slamming your jet ski into a bass boat falls under safe handling of your craft, right?

We've highlighted a wide range of morons over the last little while here at Wide Open Spaces, from the guy who thought it'd be cool to wrestle an 11-point buck to the fella who figured he'd get his kicks from dressing up as a T-Rex to play paddy-cake with a full grown alligator.

Our choice for September's moron should get a round of applause from all who enjoy our lakes and rivers from the comfort of a boat, kayak, or canoe. It's fairly safe to say that jet skis aren't well-liked on our waterways. Bad behavior, such as buzzing shorelines and boats or speeding excessively, certainly raises the ire with traditional boaters. And let's face it, most of us can't stand that annoying sound their engines produce.

The following footage, which was shot POV-style by a Minnesota angler in a bass boat, shows the terrifying moments in which a jet ski barrels down on him full throttle. We can only imagine what was going through his mind.

Here's the video:

Are you still shaking your head?

According to a Facebook post by Bassmaster, the angler was forced to jump in the lake and as you saw, the jet skier was tossed head over heels. Luckily both were uninjured and there was minimal damage to either craft.

So what was this guy trying to prove? Apparently the sun was in his eyes. If that truly was the case, wouldn't your first thought be to back off on the throttle? Perhaps stop and change direction? Maybe invest in a pair of sunglasses?

This guy earns the well-deserved moron moniker, because there's no excuse for putting someone else's life in jeopardy. It's just pure stupidity.
