Popular Texas Fishing Pier Closed Permanently

Anglers who enjoyed fishing from the Copano Bay Fishing Pier in Rockport, Texas, will have to find a new spot.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) permanently closed the fishing pier to the public because of deterioration.

Back in June, the pier's south side collapsed. That spurred TxDOT to perform a structural survey on the 86-year-old, wooden fishing pier.

The survey found the remaining portions of the pier to be in "significantly distressed condition." So far, two spans of the pier have collapsed, and officials fear the rest could do so at any time. A boat ramp on the south side remains open.

Further investigations and state and federal involvement will determine the future of the pier. Officials say they are also looking into replacement options.
