New World-Record Mule Deer From Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan hunter bags both the provincial and world record with his archery mule deer.

Dennis Bennett claimed a place in the record books recently for his giant nontypical mule deer he took with an bow Oct. 1, 2018.

The beast of a buck, which dropped dead in its tracks after being shot, will be recognized as the new provincial record, as well as the new world record.

A score of 293 6/8 was entered into the books Oct. 7, after being measured by Henry Kelsey Big Game Records officials, which are the official big-game record-keeping organization for Saskatchewan. Bennett's buck breaks the previous record score of 290, which was set in the 1920s.

Pope and Young scored the deer 291 1/8, setting the new world record.

The mule deer, which was killed in the area of Arm River, will be on display April 10-13 in Omaha, Nebraska, during the Pope and Young Club convention.
