New Gear Guide: Shimano Saltwater Lures

Here's some cool new Shimano saltwater baits for your box.

Shimano designs some of the best rods and reels on the market, but did you know they also produce some stellar saltwater fishing lures as well?

Released in late August of 2018 and revealed at the ICAST show earlier that year, Shimano has introduced a new series of saltwater baits while expanding the color selection of three others.

At first glance, all look capable of catching our favorite saltwater fish. Here's a rundown:

Lucanus Flat Jig

Shimano Saltwater Lures

A hybrid design of the original Lucanus jig and Butterfly Flat-Fall jig, Shimano's newest release - the Lucanus Flat jig - is sure to grab the attention of fish.

Designed to descend with a horizontal sliding action, this new Shimano saltwater lure stays in the strike zone longer which equates to more strikes.

Simple to use and highly effective, the new Lucanus Flat jig is worth a look if you're a fan of jigging up saltwater species. They're available in five sizes and eight colors, with a price range of $14.99 to $16.99.

Coltsniper Casting Jig

Equally effective when cast or vertically jigged, the Coltsniper Casting jig is shaped to mimic a baitfish, and when worked, creates an erratic swimming action that fish will find irresistible.

Shimano has released four new sizes for this season (.75, 1, 1.25 and 4.25 oz.) as well as four new colors (black purple, purple, real iwashi, and candy iwashi.)

That brings the total offerings to eight sizes and eight colors for the Coltsniper, with an MSRP of $7.99 to $9.99.

Coltsniper Jerkbait and Stickbait

Shimano has added three new colors to the Coltsniper Stickbait and Jerkbait line-ups for 2019, including yellow back, bone white, and wonder candy.

The Coltsniper Jerkbait is a slow floating lure that can be fished down three-to-five-feet. Depending on the retrieve, it can be worked in a tight wobble or gliding action.

Slow sinking in design, the Coltsniper Stickbait produces a wide swimming action when retrieved.

Both baits are designed with a sliding internal weight, which enables anglers to cast longer distances.

There are two size options and now 11 colors to pick from. They range in price from $12.99 to $14.99.

Butterfly Flat-Fall Jig

Shimano Saltwater Lures

Shimano's most popular saltwater fishing lure series, the Butterfly Flat-Fall jig, has four new color additions for this season, bringing the total number to eight.

The Butterfly Flat-Fall jig wobbles as it descends in a horizontal sliding motion, in part to the center-balanced design. This design trait ensures the jig stays in the strike zone longer.
