You Need to See the Powerful Video of a Wounded Veteran's African Safari

This outfitter partnered with the Send-A-Vet Foundation to sponsor a wounded veteran on the African safari hunt of a lifetime.

Mike Stilson served in the United States Marine Corps from 2006 to 2010. He suffered injuries to his left arm and right leg from an improvised explosive device in Iraq's Anbar Province September 2007.

A lifelong deer and elk hunter from eastern Washington, Mike had always dreamed of hunting in Africa. He was thrilled when the Send-A-Vet Foundation teamed up with Kok & Seyffert Big Game Hunting and Big Game Hunting Adventures (both veteran owned and operated) to make Mike's wish for an African safari come true in 2017.

Not only did Mike manage to take a beautiful kudu, a really nice impala, and a very unique duiker on his hunt, but the safari was a wonderful therapeutic and healing experience for him, too. And, they fully utilized all the meat from the animals they harvested on the hunt.

Professional hunters Kobus Kok and Johan Seyffert of Kok & Seyffert Big Game Hunting outfitted and guided the hunt. It was my pleasure to help organize and facilitate the hunt in partnership with MarkDaniel Brasel from Send-A-Vet. Izaak Steyn from Diverso Productions filmed the hunt and edited the video.

While there are a number of organizations dedicated to helping veterans, the Send-A-Vet Foundation is one of the few specifically focused on hunting.

The foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and relies on donations for all the adventures they sponsor for wounded veterans. If you would like to learn more about them or make a donation, check out the profile I wrote about them or visit their website and their Facebook page. If you or someone you know is a disabled or combat-wounded veteran who would like to participate an outdoor adventure, reach out to them through either site.
