Rutted-Up Buck Trashes Basement Office After Getting Trapped Inside

We'd hate to be the person who had to explain to the insurance company that it was a rut-crazed buck that broke a home office window and totally trashed the place. At least the homeowner has the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Department to back up the story.

According to CPW, the strange incident happened in Colorado Springs. It's unclear exactly how the deer, a good-sized mule deer buck with a large antler rack, crashed through a lower window and wound up in an office basement, but CPW is blaming the rut as the most likely explanation. They posted a series of photos of the deer in the basement, plus the damage it caused to the homeowner. Because the windows of the basement were quite large, CPW is speculating there's a chance the buck saw his own reflection in the window and tried to pick a fight. Instead, he ended up crashing through.

CPW Officer Travis Sauder and biologist Ty Woodward responded to the scene, and it quickly became apparent officials would need to tranquilize the buck to properly remove it from the basement. After Sauder darted the buck, it attempted to flee the basement and caused even more damage, destroying a vase of flowers.

Fortunately, the drugs kicked in shortly after that, and Sauder and Woodward were able to carry the deer outside.

Once they had the wayward animal outside, the officers gave the buck a reversing drug to wake it up. They also treated several cuts the animal suffered in the incident. In the photos you can see the buck bled all over the basement carpet. The last tweet shared by CPW featured a short video of Sauder massaging the deer's chest. According to CPW, this helped stimulate the deer until it woke up. CPW said the buck was groggy, but eventually wandered off. Hopefully he's a little wiser about staying away from buildings.
