Mossberg 500 Tactical: Specifications and Details of the Pump Shotgun

This wildly popular series of pump actions from Mossberg has seen over 100 different variations in its lifetime.

First introduced in the 60s, the Mossberg 500 series has evolved into several specialized models and stands in a class all its own. They're the only pump-action shotguns to ever pass the United States Military's Mil-Spec 3443G standards.

The tactical line is designed to cater to the needs of military, law enforcement, and anyone looking for a great, reliable firearm.

These tactical shotguns feature dual extractors, twin action bars, a smooth anti-jam elevator, fixed cylinder bore choke, and a ghost ring rear sight. The ambidextrous design features a top-mounted safety, and a six-position buttstock make LOP adjustments easy and tool-free. Tri-rail forend models allow for easy attaching of accessories such as red dots, flashlights, and scopes.

The adjustable stock is a black synthetic, while the barrels on this these tactical pump-action shotguns are matte blued. Round capacity varies. Mossberg 500 Tactical models are available in .410 bore, 20 gauge, and 12 gauge shotguns. Loyalists particularly love the pistol grip on the Persuader for tactical applications and at the range, and hunters enjoy using select models for turkey and waterfowl.

While it depends on the specific model within the tactical line, most of these shotguns weigh in at about 5-6 pounds, feature an average barrel length around 18 inches, and MSRP in the $400-$600 range. Oh, and they're a blast to shoot if you can get your hands on ammo.
